a. Sarris
We sold over $2,000 worth of Sarris candy! Therefore, we made about $650! Congratulations!! Tina Grosset and a few professors also sold candy for us. The candy will be delivered on December 7th and everyone must pick up his or her candy that day. Jamie Ferguson will notify you where and when. Jamie asked if there could be a couple of people to help her separate the orders. Let her know if you can help.
b. Prive/party
Prive is now called Privilege and the group decided that having a party there would be a great way to fundraise. Last year, we made about $1,100 and it widely supported our trip to Congress. Lauren Mills was highly involved in planning the event last year. She has the contacts and the flyer, Secs and Execs. It is a big undertaking dealing with the Privilege, marketing, setting up a Pay-pal account, and having many involved participants. Erica Franko volunteered to chair this event. This event will be held in January.
c. SGA
A financial meeting is being held on Wednesday, the 28th at 5:30 in 109 Parran Hall. Last year, SGA gave our organization $800. At least one officer will attend.
d. GPSA travel grants
GSPA gives out $100 travel grants to students who attend educational conferences, like ACHE Congress. If you would like to apply for a grant, please see Jamie. Mr. Friede will have to write a letter of recommendation for students who are interested.
e. Congress Assistant:
The following was on the meeting agenda:
The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) is looking for program assistants for the 2008 Congress on Healthcare Leadership, which will be held March 10–13 in Chicago. If you are an ACHE Student Associate not currently employed in a full-time healthcare management position, you may be eligible to apply for a program assistantship.
Program assistants will work four two-hour blocks at Congress seminars, receptions and/or luncheons, collecting tickets, introducing faculty and distributing seminar materials in exchange for a refund of the $275 student registration fee.
To apply for a program assistantship, you must complete an online application, which will be available in the Education area of ache.org from Dec. 2 through Jan. 7, 2008. Please note that you must register for Congress and pay the registration fee prior to applying for a program assistantship.
ACHE offers a limited number of program assistant positions and available slots fill quickly. You are encouraged to apply early. For more information and detailed descriptions, please contact Reginald Cantave, postgraduate fellow, at (312) 424-9308 or rcantave@ache.org.
f. Gift Wrapping at Barnes and Noble
Thanks to Adam Critchlow, we have another fundraising event at Barnes and Noble at the Waterfront on December 15th. There are 2 slots: 1-4 and 4-7 and 2 members must be there at each time slot. Barnes and Noble will provide us with the wrapping materials. We need to provide a bucket for donations and we will keep the donations.
A sign-up sheet was passed out and we have filled the time slots. Anyone who is interested in participating should contact Jamie Ferguson (jcf36@pitt.edu) to sign up.
The participants must dress well. Don’t wear sweat pants and sweatshirts.
g. Golf Outing
The members decided that the golf outing is a great idea, but it will be a huge undertaking. We will ask alumni, professors at the GSPH, mentors, and our preceptors to donate money to our organization, while we provide them with an afternoon of golf and a luncheon with us. Wade Ebersole and Anna Oberacker have volunteered to choose a golf course and find out prices to rent out a golf course. Erica Franko suggested to also having a raffle. This fundraising event would be beneficial for all members, because it will be great for networking. This event will be discussed further as research is completed in the next coming meetings.
